BEND, Ore. -- Governor Tina Kotek has signed a bill into law closing a loophole in Oregon's ban on single-use plastic bags.
The original law, passed in 2020, allows stores to offer thicker, multi-use plastic bags at checkout. While they are designed to be used multiple times, relatively few people actually reuse them.
The multi-use bags will be included in the ban starting in January 2027.
Oregon is following suit after California passed a similar ban on thick plastic bags at checkout.
